DGX 600 Lumen Dive Light

Dive LightsBest for: Night diving$70-$90

Our Rating

8/10

The DGX 600 punches way above its $50 price point, delivering genuine 600-lumen output that rivals lights costing three times as much. After 40+ night dives and wreck penetrations, it's my go-to backup light and surprisingly capable primary.

Pros

  • Ridiculous value — $50 for performance that rivals $150+ lights
  • Rock solid build: aircraft aluminum, triple O-rings, honest depth ratings
  • Tight 8° beam excels in low-vis conditions and for signaling
  • Compact enough for BCD pocket as backup, capable enough as primary
  • Uses standard 18650 batteries — easy to find and replace spares

Cons

  • Only 50-55 min runtime with stock battery before noticeable dimming
  • Twist activation is stiff and requires two hands
  • 600 lumens can be overpowering for shallow reef night diving
  • Button version only rated to 100m vs 200m for twist

Unboxing & First Impressions

The DGX 600 arrives in minimal packaging — just the light, a single 18650 battery, and a USB charger. At first glance, it looks almost utilitarian: aircraft-grade aluminum body, anodized finish, no frills. But pick it up and you immediately feel the quality. This thing is solid. The triple O-ring seals give confidence that it'll handle depth, and the knurling provides good grip even with wet gloves.

I've been using the DGX 600 as both a primary night dive light and a backup for wreck penetrations, logging about 40 dives across conditions ranging from tropical reefs in Komodo to low-vis muck diving in Lembeh Strait.

Beam Quality & Output

The 8-degree spot beam is tight and focused — exactly what you want for penetrating murky water or picking out macro critters hiding in coral heads. At full power, it throws a clean, usable beam reaching 30-40 meters in clear water. The cool white 6500K temperature gives excellent contrast, making colors pop against dark backgrounds. On night dives in Komodo, the beam cut through the water column with authority, illuminating reef walls in a way that had dive buddies on $150+ lights asking what I was using.

One thing worth noting: 600 lumens can actually be TOO bright for some scenarios. On shallow tropical night dives where you're staring at macro life 2 feet away, the spot can feel like a laser beam. I often found myself pointing it slightly away or cupping my hand to diffuse it.

Battery & Runtime

With the stock 3000mAh 18650, I got about 50-55 minutes of solid output before noticeable dimming. This is slightly less than the advertised 60 minutes, but typical for LED lights. The light gradually steps down rather than cutting off, giving plenty of warning. I swapped to Panasonic NCR18650B 3400mAh cells and got closer to 75 minutes of useful light.

The twist activation is reliable but stiff — the tight O-ring tolerances that make it depth-rated to 200 meters also mean it requires two hands to operate smoothly underwater. Worth the tradeoff.

Depth Performance

I took the twist version to 45 meters on a deep wall dive in Nusa Penida. No flickering, no leakage. The 200m depth rating is honest. The button version is 100m which is plenty for recreational diving, but for tech or deep rec, the twist version is worth the convenience tradeoff.

Durability

After 40+ dives including saltwater exposures, drops on boat decks, and sand during surface intervals, the DGX 600 shows only cosmetic wear. Rinse the threads thoroughly after each trip and this light will last for years. I've seen reports of divers getting 5+ years out of theirs.
